High school Proms traditionally are held in the spring - March through May. However, planning such a large and important event usually begins late in the first semester or at the beginning of the second semester.
The first, major decision concerning prom is the theme. Once this is decided, you can locate a facility, set a date and begin the active planning. The theme will help dictate color schemes and decor options. The theme can also affect the choice of a venue. (If you want to use tall decor and props, you will need a venue with lofty ceilings.)
Ideas for Prom
Ideas for Themes for Prom are never ending. It can be a bit overwhelming at first. One great way to break the ice and begin to narrow your focus is to have the members of your prom committee write down their favorite prom theme ideas or theme names on a separate piece of paper and then put them in a hat.
Have one person read each suggestion and another person record the name of each suggestion in a notebook. Have a short conversation about each theme idea and then move along to the next slip of paper.
This allows people to say what they really think without having to worry about hurting feelings. You don't know who made the suggestion so everyone remains anonymous.
Remove the ideas that didn't go over well with the committee. Group the remaining ideas and text or email a copy to each committee member. Give them so time to really think about the theme suggestions and be ready to vote at the next meeting.
Remember, with Themes...
Remember, a theme is something more than just the title. It's a feeling, but can also be conveyed tangibly through decor. Far away places, make-believe places or people, different countries and time periods are all great ways to go for a prom theme.
If possible, have some catalogs from prom supply companies like Stumps Prom & Party. The photos and names they use for prom themes can really get your creative juices flowing!
