Personal Essay or Memoir? | Great Memoir Resource
I found an interesting memoir resource today. It is from the Purdue University OWL site (Online Writing Lab). It’s actually a course description but explains some important factors about memoir. It explains the difference between personal essay and memoir writing and generating ideas for personal memoirs. Short read but very interesting!
Purdue University OWL – The Personal Memoir
Another great resource with lots of information, webinars, videos and more is the National Association of Memoir Writers. Founder and President, Linda Joy Myers, Ph.D., says about NAMW:
“The National Association of Memoir Writers (NAMW) is a membership organization that invites memoir writers from all over the world to connect, learn and become inspired about writing their stories. The goal of our organization is to help memoir writers feel empowered with purpose and energy to begin and develop their life stories into a publishable memoir, whether in essay form, a book, a family legacy, or to create a blog.”

I have not yet had the financial means to join NAMW, but do plan to as soon as my budget will allow. The membership package is huge (e-books, books, e-seminars, members only area, newsletter, etc…).
It really is a great resource if you are serious about memoir writing!
Author’s Note: I do NOT receive compensation in any form from Purdue University or the National Association of Memoir Writers. ;D
