I still can't believe my daughter -- my baby -- is going off to college. We have been spending the summer trying to narrow down a list of items she needs for college. Dorm life is different from living in an apartment, at least. She won't need to set up an entire home, thank goodness. So, I thought their might be other parents out there that could benefit from our parred down list.
We sent my son off to school about 5 years ago so this wasn't a totally new situation for me. However, girls are different from boys. Brendan was a "just take the bare essentials" type guy. Haley wanted to take her entire room and half of the department store. I finally convinced her that she will only be 4 hours away so if she finds something we forgot, not all is lost. We can still add to it.
I think the sentence that made her stop and re-think what she wanted to take with her was when I said "Remember, you will have to pack and bring home everything you have taken at the end of the school year."
Anyway, here are some have-to's when it comes to college bound students:

Do you see the theme developing? Yup, she loves zebras so almost everything is black and/or white. These are the necessities though the list is longer. At least she can eat, drink, sleep, do laundry and get to the shower in an organized manner.

All the dorm essentials, how great for your daughter and how sad for you. Your baby is growing up! One of my daughters went off with all black and white, too. I tried to interject some color and was vetoed. All the best of luck and fun, Haley!
